Waterberg Plateau Park is located in northern Namibia and is known for its distinctive table mountain rising about 200 metres above the surrounding landscape. The red sandstone cliffs and lusher vegetation contrast strongly with the drier regions of the country.

Due to its isolated location, the area was early on designated as an important conservation area for endangered species. Today, rhinos, buffalo and various antelope species live here in a protected environment.

Beyond its wildlife, the park is especially known for its spectacular viewpoints and hiking trails, offering wide panoramic views over the Namibian landscape.

Wildlife in Waterberg Plateau Park

Waterberg Plateau Park serves as an important conservation area for various animal species, especially endangered ones. Rhinos, buffalo and several antelope species live here in a protected environment.

Thanks to the plateau’s isolated location, a stable wildlife population has developed. Smaller animals as well as numerous bird species can also be found in the park.

Compared to large safari parks, classic wildlife viewing is less of a focus here. Instead, the park offers a unique combination of nature, conservation projects and scenic landscapes.
