Bwabwata National Park is located in northeastern Namibia in the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) and differs significantly from the country’s dry desert landscapes. Shaped by rivers such as the Okavango and Kwando, the park offers a green, water-rich environment that attracts an exceptional diversity of wildlife. Especially during the dry season, large herds of elephants, buffalo and other animals gather along the rivers, creating impressive wildlife sightings.

Due to its location between Angola, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, the park also serves as an important wildlife corridor in southern Africa. This unique geographical position makes Bwabwata one of the most dynamic ecosystems in the region.

The park is far less visited than Etosha National Park and therefore offers an authentic safari experience with plenty of peace and untouched nature.

Wildlife in Bwabwata National Park

Bwabwata National Park offers impressive wildlife that differs significantly from Namibia’s classic desert regions. Large herds of elephants, buffalo, hippos and numerous antelope species are commonly seen here.

Predators such as lions, leopards and hyenas are also present in the park, although they are more difficult to spot. Thanks to the proximity to rivers, a wide variety of bird species can also be observed, making Bwabwata particularly attractive for birdwatching.

The combination of water, vegetation and wildlife makes the park one of the most diverse ecosystems in Namibia.
